Brain Tumour Support Service

The JCMF has partnered with Austin Health to fund and establish the unique Brain Tumour Support Service. The primary objective of this service is to facilitate individual support and supportive programs for brain tumour patients and their families.

The Service’s Primary Strategies

  1. Information

Timely, relevant, individually tailored to peoples needs.

  2. Support

Provide in a range of ways over the whole journey of their illness, individual and family support group, online and carers’ sessions.

  3. Resource development

Helping patients and families strengthen their own resources and connect with appropriate services.

  4. Acknowledgement

Facilitating peer to peer opportunities through the support group and education forums.

The service also provides professional support to health practitioners in regional hospitals.

STOP PRESS!

The service has recently been recognized at an international level by the World Federation of Neuro-Oncology / Society for Neuro-Oncology.

Two abstracts have been accepted for later this year:

  • showcasing how the BTSO role was established.

  • the regional Brain Tumour professional network.

This is truly exciting news that health professional overseas will hear about our partnership and this much needed support for people with brain tumours.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the JCMF has granted $960,000 to Austin Health to fund the service and related projects.
