About Us
The John Cummins Memorial Fund was established to honour the legacy of John Cummins who died in August 2006 as the result of a brain tumour. The JCMF was initiated by John’s family, friends and comrades, and receives generous support from the CFMEU’s Construction & General Division, Victorian Branch.
Our Aims
To raise funds to support:
the wellbeing of cancer patients diagnosed with a brain tumour
social inclusion of young people experiencing financial disadvantage through funding our Dare to Dream scholarship program and targeted team sporting activities.
Our Fundraising
Our fundraising activities are critical to the ongoing work of the JCMF.
Sunday 22 March — Cummo Community Cup
Join us for a social football match at Shelley Park, the home of North Heidelberg Sporting Club.
A luncheon will commence at 11:30am, with limited seating available.
The game will kick off at 3:00pm, featuring a social match between Lalor Football Club and North Heidelberg. It promises to be a great afternoon, with construction workers, friends, and supporters of the Cummo Fund pulling on the memorial guernseys and taking to the field to show us what they’ve got.
Annual Dinner
We hosted 10 annual dinners on the last Friday of August each year, welcoming more than 800 guests. These events were a great success and played an important role in supporting the financial sustainability of our Fund. Since COVID, we have not held any further events, but stay tuned for updates and future announcements in this space.
Governance
The JCMF is affiliated with the Australian Communities Foundation. The ACF facilitates philanthropy to build healthy and resilient communities and positive social change.
